Many people who’ve seen this piece say they recognize Trump within it — though I think it’s probably just the hair. My original intention was to paint a dragon, but as the process unfolded, things became chaotic. I decided to pause and let the work dry.
A few days later, when I returned to the canvas, I noticed what seemed to be the faint outline of a monkey emerging from the textures. Trusting that instinct, I picked up a brush and began tracing its form in black. From there, the image took on a life of its own — a creation born from accident, intuition, and flow.
To me, this piece represents a battle — one that could be internal or external. It speaks to the tension between chaos and clarity, control and surrender. When viewed with openness and intent, it reveals layers of emotion and conflict that mirror our own human struggles.
How I made this piece? I took a picture and the glass out of a frame and had an old piece of cardboard that I then cut up to smaller squares. I painted each piece one by one with random/yet intentionally felt brush strokes maybe some drizzle or splatter here and there.. then set the piece overlapping another. Nothing by accident. Even if it may have felt like it for a moment.
